Ever lesson is different and this is not a rigid four-step formula. I will adapt the lesson depending on what the learner needs on that day.

We look at the required prerequisite knowledge the learner already possesses on the topic and any knowledge gaps they may have.

I will break down the concept into bite size components in a way that the learner can effectively engage with.

There will be an opportunity for the learner to apply the knowledge they just learnt and attempt questions on the topic.

We identify what the learner has improved on, what still needs to be worked on and what we plan to tackle next.

If the first explanation does not click, I will attempt explaining it a different way until the learner feels confident. I typically assess understanding through consistent moments to reflect on what is clicking and what is not.
Going at the Right Pace

Some topics require slightly longer than others and we may need to split a single topic across a couple of lessons. We may even need to do some more practice questions together to test out their knowledge.

Instead of standard lesson objectives, we set individual learning goals for the learner for that particular topic/lesson and review if we have met all of those at the end of the lesson.
